Philippines one step closer to regulating GMO crops

(April 3, 2002 – CropChoice news) – With approval from its president in hand, the Philippine government takes another step toward establishing a system to regulate farm products that contain genetically modified organisms.

Among other things, the new draft guidelines would mandate that importers of corn, soybeans, potatoes and other crops certify whether their products contain transgenic organisms.

Given that the president has signed off on the regulations, what remains is for the Philippine Agriculture secretary to make them administrative law.
