Largest Australian farm group calls for postponing GM canola debut

(July 31, 2002 -- CropChoice news) -- The New South Wales Farmers Association, the largest farmers organization in Australia, last week called for postponing the introduction of genetically modified canola until segregation and identity preservation can be resolved.

Australia's 1.5 to 2.0 million tons of canola, all of which is conventionally grown, competes with the Canadian crop, most of which is transgenic.
