Lula would continue GM ban in Brazil

(Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 -- CropChoice news) -- If Workers' Party presidential candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva wins Brazil's presidential election -- the first round of results indicates that he will -- his government would continue the country's ban on genetically engineered crops.

Over the past four years, environmental, farm and consumer organizations have used the courts to block commercialization of biotech crops.
