Stronger StarLink measures

(February 21, 2001 -- Cropchoice news) -- The United States will strengthen its inspection measures for StarLink contamination of corn exports to Japan, according to an agreement that the USDA and the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare reached yesterday.

This comes in the wake of Japan finding more of the genetically engineered variety, which it has not approved for human or animal consumption, in corn shipments from the United States.

Fearing StarLink contamination, South Korea likely will turn to Argentina to supply more of its corn.
