Europe turns to lupins as possible means of avoiding GMO protein sources

(March 22, 2002 – CropChoice news) – Scottish farmers will be joining their counterparts on the Continent this season by sowing lupins.

These nitrogen fixing plants yield 1.5 to 2 tons per acre, and with Europe looking for non-transgenic feed for livestock, lupins – high in protein and oil – could replace soy, much of which is genetically engineered.
