Philippines working on GMO protocol, Brazil gears up for WTO challenge (November 6, 2001 -- CropChoice news) -- By the end of the year the government of the Philippines will establish a procedure for the testing, importation, commercialization and cultivation of transgenic crops and seeds. Across the Pacific, Brazil is preparing to take on U.S. soybean subsidies.
Non-governmental organizations, farmers, and university researchers have been working with the government to develop a draft policy on this technology.
Meanwhile, Brazil is preparing to challenge U.S. soybean subsidies in the World Trade Organization. It claims that the subsidies have diminished its exports by $1 billion per year.
